Nick Verreos and FIDM San Diego "3 Days of Fashion 2013" attendee--FIDM San Diego

Last week, I had the pleasure of driving to San Diego with my NV Nick Verreos and NIKOLAKI design/business and life partner David Paul, as well as our little pupster, Benny--to attend the final day of the last Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising/FIDM 3 Days of Fashion 2013 at the FIDM San Diego campus. It's always a treat to come to San Diego since David's family lives there and therefore, it is a nice added bonus to see them...

Nick Verreos--FIDM San Diego "3 Days of Fashion 2013"

I have already been to FIDM Orange County, San Francisco and Los Angeles, so this was the last stop on my "Nick FIDM 3 Days of Fashion Summer Tour". As part of my "FIDM 3 Days of Fashion" appearance, I was able to bring some of my NV Nick Verreos and NIKOLAKI dresses/gowns. We checked in the night before at my favorite San Diego hotel, the Solamar Hotel Kimpton San Diego hotel (they allow dogs!)...

Welcome Wine and Chocolates: The Solamar Hotel Kimpton San Diego had a lovely bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon and chocolates in my room as a lovely "Welcome Back Nick".

David and I went to meet up with David's mom, Conchita, his sisters Elise and Marisa and his beautiful nieces Emilie and Samantha. It was an amazing sight to see David's mom as well as his sisters all wearing "NV Nick Verreos" dresses (they bought them all online!). After the photo op, we all dined at Roseville Cozinha. Say Cheese: The FIDM San Diego "3 Days of Fashion 2013" audience--I took these pics right as I walked out--everyone looked SOOOOO cute and excited!

Rock the FIDM San Diego Runway: First things first, we had the "Rock The Runway" competition--selected FIDM San Diego "3 Days of Fashion 2013" attendees competed for various categories like "Best Makeup and Hair", "Haute Hipster", "Best Shoes", "Best Vintage", etc. (pics above). Benny Oopsie: Finally--after my appearance, David, Benny and I checked out of our Solamar Hotel and noticed that they hadn't "welcomed" our little Benny when we checked in the day before (left photo above). I tweeted this and well, the Hotel Solamar Kimpton peeps fixed that very quickly, as see on the photo on the right :) (the Valet guys' face says it all...in other words "I'm sorry!"). Don't worry Solamar Hotel Kimpton San Diego, Benny still "Woof-Woof" luvs you:

Fashion Designer Nick Verreos with model Amanda Fields in his NIKOLAKI gown, inspired by Leonore Annenberg--Sunnylands Chic: the Fashions of Leonore Annenberg fashion event Sunnylands Rancho Mirage

On Wednesday, I went to the Desert--specifically, Rancho Mirage California. I was invited by Sunnylands and sponsored by the fabulous Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising/FIDM to create a gown inspired by Leonore Annenberg, wife of former Ambassador to the United Kingdom and publishing magnate and philanthropist, Walter Annenberg. I was honored to be amongst five other designers, Michael Costello, Anthony Franco, Paul Hernandez, Lloyd Klein and Fe Zandi, who also designed creations inspired by Mr. and/or Mrs. Annenberg.

My Inspiration: Nick Verreos with Leonore Annenberg's Oscar de la Renta apple green silk faille a-line batteau-neck gown

I was asked to pick a garment from Mrs. Annenberg's "closet" and create a contemporary design. Well, naturally, after seeing an apple green silk faille Oscar de la Renta gown, it was "done and done", as I say. Now, before I get to all the photos of the fabulous fashion event and my Leonore Annenberg-inspired NIKOLAKI gown, it's time to take in the AMAZING Sunnylands gardens--Take a look at these GLORIOUS pics taken by my NIKOLAKI design and life partner David Paul. We were UTTERLY jealous of how beautiful this California succulent garden was...breathtaking indeed:

My NIKOLAKI deisgn:

NIKOLAKI Gown Inspired by Leonore Annenberg--modeled by Amanda Fields--I was inspired by the color first and foremost--of the original Oscar de la Renta gown. Then, I referenced the a-line silhouette as well as the batteau (boat) neckline.

I also wanted to pay homage to the fabulous midcentury architecture of Sunnylands as well as the Hollywood Regency decors of the home--in terms of the structured shape, pleated front and arched back.
