The Look: Chanel Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2014 took place in a set that Karl Lagerfeld said was "an ice palace, a nightclub on another planet". His "ice princess" were crystallized, athletic and corseted. The corseted midriff was the core of almost every silhouette of this collection. Cropped bolero jackets went on top while fuller dirndl skirts finished the suiting look. There was a definite "athletic"/sportif theme (Hello Olympics!)--with elbow and knee pads as well as fanny packs. Every model wore a couture sneaker from Massaro. The cost of those said sneakers, around $6000. Couture Sportif.



Colors: Ivory, pink, mint green, creme, metallics, silver, golden hues, nudes, pastels.







Trends: Boxy suiting; sack dresses; 1920s gowns; cropped jackets; full dirndl skirts; Couture sneakers; Accessory Must-Have: Fanny packs; Focus on the corseted midriff; drop waist silhouettes.

Karl Lagerfeld showed his vision for Chanel Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2013/2014 this past week. The Grand Palais was transformed into a derelict theater; run down, damaged. But in the background, a sight of a futuristic metropolis. 








The Look: "Brave New World" meets "Mad Max" Couture. Boxy suitings; luxe boucle with a low-slung waist belt detail. Almost every look had this wide belt accent. Also; hats. All about hats. In terms of details, the silhouette was low-slung, 20's/30's, rounded shoulders, flange shoulders, a-line skirts. Lots of styles for his UBER RICH clientele to drool over.

Haute Forest:











The Look: A runway show set in a forest at the Grand Palais--with trees shipped  tree by tree (yes, kids, that costs a pretty Euro!). Luxirious tweeds, boucle suitings. Designer Karl Lagerfeld said this collection was "neo-classical". It was, inspired by Weimar, hub of German Romanticism in the late eighteenth century, home to Goethe and Schiller of course. I thought lots of the evening dresses were very early 20th Century shaped. There were defined interests in the shoulder, across the upper torso, arms. Structural, architectural. Floral fantasies for gowns It was all exquisite. If you're a lady who can afford a $40,000 hand-made fit-to-you only suit, call the House of Chanel Couture. ASAP.
